Regrowing Your Eyelashes After Chemo With UKLASH

We understand that receiving a cancer diagnosis throws your world off its axis and can be such a difficult time to navigate. With appointments and other concerns swirling around your head, the last thing you want to worry about is hair loss. That's why the experts at UKLASH are here to put your mind at ease, debunk any myths, and help your hair get back to normality as quickly as possible.
In this article, we're going to be focusing on eyelash loss from chemo, why it happens and how to regrow eyelashes post-chemotherapy, with a little help from UKLASH.

Why Do Eyelashes Fall Out During Chemotherapy?

Chemotherapy is used to attack cancer cells, which divide and grow quickly, but the treatment is unable to distinguish between rapidly dividing cells that are cancerous and those that aren’t, like our hair cells. This means the chemotherapy attacks hair cells as well, causing hair to fall out.
Contrary to popular belief, not everyone experiences hair loss during chemotherapy - it will depend on your diagnosis including the type of drugs you are given, your dosage and the frequency at which you have to go through chemotherapy.

How Long Does It Take for Eyelashes to Grow Back After Chemo?

Everyone’s cancer journey looks different, therefore if someone experiences hair loss due to chemotherapy treatment, the time it takes for hair to grow back can also vary as well. A variety of factors can influence how long it takes for lashes, brows and hair to grow back including the type of drugs administered, the dosage, the duration of treatment and how a person has responded to the treatment which is completely unique to each individual.
On average, you can expect to see regrowth around 3 months after the chemotherapy treatment ends. As well as having to wait for your body to settle into a “new-normal”, your hair growth cycle will have been interrupted and will need to also readjust into its own rhythm.

Often, the effects of chemotherapy push hairs into the Telogen Phase, aka the Resting Phase, prematurely which causes hair loss. This also means that when chemotherapy ends, it keeps them in the Resting Phase for a prolonged period and can take a while for your hair growth cycle to reset and move back into the Anagen Phase, aka the Growth Phase. Lori G’s Story Of Eyelash Restoration After Chemotherapy

“After losing my lashes to chemotherapy I began using the UKLASH Eyelash Serum and have been applying it every night ever since! I started to notice my lashes growing back after around 8 weeks. I had absolutely nothing left before and now my lashes are completely back and fuller than ever! I can't recommend the UKLASH Eyelash Serum highly enough and I am delighted I can now use the Lengthening Mascara as well as getting regular lash lifts and tints to give me that extra boost. I am so grateful for the products and the change they've made to my life. Something that may seem so superficial but is actually a massive step in helping me gain my confidence again after cancer. The products really are incredible and so easy to use.”

4 Best Tips For Eyelash Regrowth After Chemo

1. Be Gentle - It’s common for people to experience extra sensitivity both during and after going through chemotherapy so it’s really important to be gentle on your lashes as they start to bounce back! Avoid excessive rubbing around the eyes. If possible, avoid heavy make-up looks that will require harsh make-up removers and instead opt for more natural make-up and use a fragrance-free and pH-balanced cleanser when removing.
2. Eat A Balanced Diet - Chemotherapy is a lot for your body to take, and so it’s important to fuel your body with all the important vitamins and nutrients it needs to stay strong during recovery! The best vitamins for eyelash regrowth after chemotherapy include Biotin, Vitamin C+E, and Folic Acid, all of which can be found in our UKHAIR Hair Vitamins! Chew two gummies a day to help supplement your diet, which should also include a balanced diet of proteins, greens and fibre, dairy and fats!
3. Avoid Lash Extensions and False Lashes - Although it might seem like an easy and quick fix, using false lashes and eyelash extensions after cancer treatment can get in the way of long and luscious natural lash growth! The glues can clog the pores in your lash line if not removed properly and the lashes themselves can add weight and additional pressure to your lashes at a time when they’re most fragile and trying to grow! If you loved false lashes and extensions before your diagnosis, it’s best to wait until you’re lashes are back to full health before using them again!
4. Use Protection - When your lashes start to grow back after chemotherapy, they will be really fragile and it’s important to protect them as much as possible at this stage to promote strength and growth. In harsh weather conditions, such as extreme winds, rain or sun exposure you can wear sunglasses to help shield them and nurture natural lash growth to help them grow back longer, fuller and thicker-looking in no time!
Ultimately, chemotherapy is a time when a lot of stress has been put on your body, so coming out of this stage, it’s important to practice patience and be proud of how far you have come! At UKLASH, we understand how much hair can mean for your self-esteem and confidence, which is why we’re here to help.
